The proportion of recycled wood used in the production of wood-based materials—especially chipboard—has risen steadily in recent years. The reasons and objectives for this are the effective and multi-stage material use of existing resources in the form of processed wood waste, the optimal utilization of the value chain of the valuable raw material wood, and the establishment of a circular economy while extending the service life of wood-based materials.
In this context, EPH offers a voluntary certification system for implementing the requirements of the IKEA standard IOS-MAT-0010 for the processing of recycled wood in the wood-based materials industry. The system is aimed in particular at manufacturers of chipboard who use recycled wood from industry and end consumers and who must ensure the required conformity with IKEA.
Grundlage der Zertifizierung ist das von IKEA verlangte Qualitätssicherungsprogramm (QA-Programm) zur Kontrolle chemischer Risiken aus Recyclingholz. Im Rahmen der Zertifizierung werden Aufbau, Implementierung und Wirksamkeit dieses QA-Programms überprüft.
Cerification Content
The certification includes, among other things, the evaluation of:
- QA program for the use of recycled wood in accordance with Appendix I of IOS-MAT-0010
- Classification and control of the wood waste categories used
- Material flow control, testing, and sampling concepts
- Measures to prevent unacceptable wood qualities and pollutant inputs
- Documentation, traceability, and internal surveillance
- Sampling and testing for chemical substances in accordance with IOS-MAT-0010, Table 9
The review is based on defined criteria and provides reliable evidence of compliance with IKEA requirements.
